NaNoWriMo

Next month is National Novel Writing Month (or NaNoWriMo) and the challenge is to write a 50,000 word novel (175 pages) between November 1st and November 30th. I've always wanted to write a novel (on what, I don't really know yet), but I've always planned on doing it someday down the road. Someday has now become next month for me.

I'm all about the mandatory (do or die) deadlines. Apparently thousands of people participate each year (79,000 signed up last year and almost 13,000 actually finished it), so I'll actually be participating in and working through the same challenge that many others will be facing (it's not fun to suffer alone). So, I'm kind of excited about the idea.

We'll see if that persists when Nov 1st arrives.

I think that's so rad. I will actually read all 50,000 words that you write.

story ideas:

robot planet finds religion. realizes they are robots without souls.

group of 30 somethings quit office jobs to become real life, actual pirates. actually kill people. actually steal stuff. struggle with moral implications.

I actually sort of like that second one. so maybe I want dibs on it.

Is there such a thing as National Novella Writing Month? I think that might be more in my range.

Can't wait to read it, Micah. I think you should go with robot pirates.

Puzzlement: I thought it was Micah that made the entry about writing a novel. So is it Bess or Micah that I'll be reading? No matter, I'm standing proud.

I think you should write your novel in real time. That would be a real page turner.

P.S. Mom, Cindy Lauper just wants to have fun, not Cindy Crawford. Cindy Crawford just wants her hair and make-up done and be famous agin like she was in 1987. I can't post on your blog because you've blocked non-bloggers. Thanks for the pics.

I'm glad you've finally decided to come around and write that semi fictional mostly biographical novel about my life and accomplishments.

Meanwhile, since novel writing is not something that interests me, I will be taking part in something a little more my style, NaDirLimerWriMo.

It's too bad that National Novel Writing & Dirty Limerick Writing Month both happen to be in November. What about those of us who want to do both?
