"Teaching" etc.

Hey everybody, It's Micah. I'm currently teaching a class at UVSC and really enjoying it. It's called Interactive Design, and it's basically a graphic designer's crash course in basic web design.

It's funny because of all the things I know about design, web design is not something I learned in school. I actually sat down one weekend, after going to a job interview where I was told "we would hire you right now if you knew html," found a website with some html tutorials and put together my first website. Ever since then I've been toying with code here and there in my spare time and I've actually gotten a few jobs doing websites.

At the moment my class is in serious trouble. They were supposed to have their first site done by today, but they aren't understanding it very well so I'm giving them extra time. I'm struggling trying to figure out how I could have taught the material better so they would understand it. Teaching is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I'm still enjoying it, I just want to teach the best I can and up until now I don't think I have.

If anyone is interested, I am currently working on a few (hundred) side projects, some of which I have online. Below are the links:

The Directive [A site for my experimental work]
F15teen Magazine [An online magazine for creative BMXers]
Graphic Journal 2 [A blog for random work]

It's kind of addicting.

Writing code is a nice break from design sometimes.
